Cause and Effect Connectors (Çünkü vs. Bu Yüzden)

Understanding how to link sentences in Turkish depends entirely on which part comes first: the Reason or the Result.

The Connector: Çünkü (Because)

Used when the Result is mentioned first.

  • Structure: [Result] + Çünkü + [Reason].

  • Example: Seni aramadım çünkü uyuyordum. (I didn't call you because I was sleeping).

Result Connectors: (Therefore / That's why)

Common ones include: (Bu yüzden / Bu nedenle / Bu sebeple / Bunun için)

Used when the Reason is mentioned first.

  • Structure: [Reason] + Connector + [Result].

  • Example: Uyuyordum bu yüzden seni aramadım. (I was sleeping, therefore I didn't call you).
